Semiconductor Ceramics Description
Semiconductor fabrication runs on tolerances and cleanliness that metals and plastics can't sustain — a wafer-handling arm that sheds particles, or a chuck that drifts a few microns under heat, can take an entire lot out of spec. Technical ceramics hold their geometry, resist plasma and process chemistry, and stay electrically predictable through repeated thermal cycling, which is why they've become the default material for the parts that actually touch the wafer.
We machine semiconductor ceramic components from high-purity alumina, aluminum nitride, silicon nitride and silicon carbide, matching the material to the part's role — insulation, thermal management, plasma resistance or mechanical wear — rather than defaulting to a single grade across the whole tool.
Materials by role:
→ Alumina (Al₂O₃): general insulation, wear parts, handling tooling
→ Aluminum Nitride (AlN): heater plates & chucks needing thermal conductivity
→ Silicon Nitride (Si₃N₄): high-strength structural & bearing components
→ Silicon Carbide (SiC): plasma- and chemical-resistant chamber parts
Not sure which fits your tool? Send your process conditions and we'll recommend a grade.

Frequently Asked Questions
What tolerances can Microns hold on structural ceramic components?
On ground and lapped features we routinely hold tolerances to ±0.01mm, with surface finishes down to Ra 0.2–0.6µm depending on material and geometry. As-fired (unground) surfaces carry looser tolerances, which our engineers will flag when quoting your drawing.
Which ceramic material is best for a structural or wear component?
It depends on the load, temperature and environment. Alumina is the standard choice for general wear resistance and electrical insulation. Zirconia adds fracture toughness for parts under mechanical shock. Silicon carbide and silicon nitride are used where extreme wear resistance, thermal shock resistance, or high-temperature strength are required. Our engineers will recommend a material once they see your application.
Can Microns manufacture a custom component from my drawing?
Yes. Send us a DWG, STEP, or dimensioned PDF drawing with your material and tolerance requirements, and our engineering team will return a manufacturing quote, typically within 24 hours.
How fast can I get a quote or a sample part?
Our U.S.-based engineering team typically responds to drawings and RFQs within 24 hours. Sample and production lead times vary by geometry and material and are confirmed at quoting.
