What is Aluminum Nitride Ceramic

Aluminum nitride ceramics are made of aluminum nitride (AlN), with a common melting point around 2200°C and density of 3.255–3.320 g/cm3.

Its thermal conductivity is up to 320W/m·K — similar to aluminum metal — while AlN maintains excellent electrical insulation, a rare combination used widely in power electronics, LED heat sinks, and packaging.

Thermal Shock Resistance of Aluminum Nitride Ceramics

Aluminum nitride's coefficient of thermal expansion is close to that of silicon, making it well suited to electronic packaging where thermal expansion mismatch would otherwise cause failure.

Its corrosion resistance is better than most other technical ceramics such as Al2O3, Si3N4, and SiC, with stable thermal shock resistance at high working temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can AlN/aluminum nitride ceramics be customized?

Yes. We offer custom shapes, thicknesses down to 0.05mm, tolerances, and metallization based on customer drawings.

What is the matching of thermal expansion coefficient of aluminum nitride ceramics?

AlN's expansion coefficient closely matches silicon, making it a preferred substrate material for semiconductor and power electronics packaging.

How does the thermal conductivity of aluminum nitride compare with that of metallic aluminum?

AlN's thermal conductivity (up to 320W/m·K) approaches that of aluminum metal, while remaining an excellent electrical insulator.

Is aluminum nitride excellent in electrical insulation?

Yes. High volume resistivity and low dielectric loss make it an excellent insulator even while conducting heat efficiently.

Is aluminum nitride magnetic?

No. AlN is a non-magnetic ceramic, suitable for applications sensitive to magnetic interference.
